Today 4Sept2023: Labor Day 2023

Today, I have been plagued by an earache in my non-hearing left ear. It pulses like it is full of pressure every five minutes or so. It feels like a pressure change you cannot relieve–painkillers are helping. I hope it settles before the air flight on Thursday night. I woke with this issue at 6ish, went back to sleep, and stayed in bed until 8:20ish. I started the hot water in the electric kettle after replacing the water as, ick, ants were floating in it. I am working to lessen the ant population by various harsh means. So far, I have only made limited progress.

I listened to ABC news on Alexa while peddling on the immobile Schwinn bike for thirty minutes. Bloomberg did not work again. I did not learn much I did not know, but the time goes faster with something to listen to. I was covered in sweat, but I managed 6.5 non-traveled miles. Next, I summoned breakfast by defrosting and then toasting my last NYC bagel (thanks, Joyce) and had that covered in cream cheese (salmon flavored). I had my last banana and made liberal coffee in my French Press. I have enough breakfast food to get me to Thursday when I head to Michigan, and then I will go shopping after I return on Tuesday–hoping my return flights will work.

It is Labor Day, so I don’t work today, and the project even shut down (mostly) on this USA Holiday. It is nice to have a real weekend again, plus a holiday.

I closed August in Quicken by reviewing every transaction. I then printed out the transactions and assembled the paper version of the bills, including paystubs, bank statements, and like material. Everything needed to prove the month happened, as I signal in Quicken. I collected receipts in a folder sleeve and punched holes in larger paper. Dull but necessary for my planning.

Time seemed to disappear, and soon I was having a lunch of reheated Hungarian Goulash, the last of it. I showered, dressed, and headed to see Susie. Today’s traffic was light and light mist, our usual fall weather and I was soon at Susie’s place at Allegiance Senior Care LLC, 9925 SW 82nd. Ave. Portland (Tigard), OR 97223; phone (503) 246-4116.

Susie was in her wheelchair, drinking some Ensure at the counter with Jennifer, the weekday nursing aide. Once Susie was done, we headed to the mall (Evan came, too). I loaded Susie into the co-pilot seat in Air Volvo and drove to Washington Square Mall. I then unloaded Susie with Evan helping with the wheelchair (I lost part of my stool when I did this–I must have kicked it under the car).

Soon, we were touring the mall. We visited Made In Oregon and got some items for folks and a card for the wedding (My sister is getting married next Sunday). Next, we called Leta and Barb in a three-way call using my iPhone and FaceTime. Barb is Susie’s sister, and Leta is their mother. Leta stayed on for a while, but Barb was shopping and had to ring off. Soon, Leta was up-to-date, and we rang off. We stopped by the usual stops, and I resisted buying any cooking supplies or equipment. We purchased flowers Susie picked out, but their credit card system was out; I had enough cash and a good tip. Thus, we had lovely flowers to bring back to the hummingbird house.

We reversed and returned to The Cheesecake Factory, which, oddly, no longer had a considerable waitlist, but still, we ordered cheesecake to go. Susie was NYC with strawberry, mango for me, and salted caramel for Evan. Evan stayed while I walked quickly through the mall, brought the car to The Cheesecake Factory, and then loaded Susie from the higher sidewalk; it was a bit harder, but I managed it without incident. We returned to the hummingbird house, and Jennifer blended some of the cake and strawberries for Susie–she ate it all! Evan and I ate our cake, too, with Susie.

Evan had a Pickle Ball game, so he left as Susie, and I moved to the bedroom. Susie and I watched an episode from Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. I am like what they are doing differently for this season. Susie was napping, so I headed out with a promise for a visit on Tuesday. I set up the gate and the crash pad to keep Susie safe. The travel back to Volvo Cave without issues.

I made dinner with Swedish meatballs (IKEA), sauce (IKEA), and egg noodles. Not exactly diet food. It was excellent with the lingonberry sauce (IKEA) on the side. I made and then ate this while watching The Two Towers movie. It was as good as I remembered it.

I had an 8PM meeting with India for work (Tuesday in India). After that, I completed this blog.

Thanks for reading.
